Besides doctors and nurses, allied health professionals play a key role in the patients' road to recovery. In fact, they form a significant percentage of the total health workforce, ranging from dieticians, to medical social workers, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, etc. Physiotherapy Stemming from the word "Physical-therapy", physiotherapy is the therapeutic treatment of disease, bodily defects or weaknesses by massage, special exercises, also known as remedial training or rehabilitation. The role of a physiotherapist is to assess, treat, and educate patients whose movements are restricted due to their medical conditions or injuries. Upon assessing the patient's conditions, the physiotherapist will design individually-tailored treatment programmes aimed at helping each patient achieving maximum mobility. Occupational Therapy Occupational therapy focuses on understanding and improving the functional abilities of a patient to perform daily tasks. An occupational therapist is actively involved in the mental faculties of the patient, helping them adapt to the disruptions in their lifestyle due to their medical conditions or injuries. Through occupational trainings such as ADL (Activities of Daily Living), the therapist ensures that the patient can lead an optimal life in spite of his/her injuries, maximising the patient's independence at home, at work and in their social life.
