Ren Ci Vegetarian Food Fiesta 2011:

Bonding the family, reaching out to the community

Singapore, 18 September 2011 – The iconic annual fundraising carnival, Ren Ci Vegetarian Food Fiesta 2011, will be held at Ren Ci Community Hospital (71 Irrawaddy Road) on  Sunday, 18 September 2011 from 8.30am to 5.00pm.   The event will be graced by Guest-of-Honour Mr Sam Tan Chin Siong, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports & Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Mayor for Central Singapore District.

Into its 9th year, the one-day iconic fundraising carnival targets to raise $250,000 through coupon sales. All proceeds raised during the event will go towards patient care.

Some 400 volunteers from all walks of life will gather at Ren Ci Community Hospital this year to set up a total of 61 stalls selling a wide gastronomic selection of savory vegetarian cuisines and more. Besides devoting their time and efforts, these volunteers are also contributing financially, absorbing the costs incurred in preparing the food and setting up the stalls.

Meanwhile, the event also aims to achieve the goal of “bonding the family, reaching out to the community”, just as the theme for this year’s event suggests.

“This carnival is not just about vegetarian food. It is also a perfect opportunity for families and friends to spend quality time together while contributing to a meaningful cause,” said Mr Chua Thian Poh, Chairman of Ren Ci Hospital.

Beyond the needy patients in Ren Ci Hospital, the event will also reach out to the less fortunate in the community as some altruistic donors have made bulk-purchases of the fiesta coupon and distributed them to the needy in various homes and elder care centres, who will be enjoying a special treat during the event.

Other highlights during the carnival include the launch of Ren Ci’s commemorative book entitled “Ren Ci: 15 years and beyond”, interesting song and dance performances by Chongfu Alumni, fun and creative “Dressing up my Mini Cake with Rainbow Icings” workshop, Vegetarian Cooking Demonstration, plus plenty of games and activities for the family.

The public can purchase the coupons in advance at $10 each or $50 per booklet by calling Ren Ci at 6355 6477. All funds raised will be used towards patient care.
