Ren Ci Staff Nurse recieves the Healthcare Humanity Award

On 24 May 2010, our Senior Staff Nurse at Ren Ci Community Hospital ward 13, Mr Pyi Tha Tun, received the Courage Fund’s Healthcare Humanity Award 2010 from President SR Nathan during the award ceremony held at NTUC Centre. Among the 61 recipients this year, Pyi Tha Tun stood out as one of the few who had come from overseas to serve our patients in Singapore.

Pyi Tha Tun joined Ren Ci in 1995 and started out as a Nursing Aide.  Through sheer dedication and diligence, he rose through the ranks to become a Senior Staff Nurse, overseeing a team of almost 30 nurses today. “I am thankful for the many opportunities Ren Ci gave me,” said Pyi Tha Tun. “I face many challenges in my nursing profession and my source of motivation comes from the patients and their well-being.”

In his 15 years of service with Ren Ci, he has earned himself several accolades for his commendable performance, including the Ren Ci Merit Awards, Best Team Member Award and the Loving Touch Caring Heart Award. Pyi Tha Tun’s eagerness to help others extends beyond the boundaries of Ren Ci as he actively contributed to the Medical Relief Efforts in the 2006 Indonesian earthquake.  It is therefore no surprise that his peers describe him as a role model whom they would like to emulate.

Ren Ci definitely needs employees like him as we continue to scale greater heights in quality medical and nursing care,” said Mr James Toi, Chief Executive Officer, Ren Ci Hospital & Medicare Centre. With the recently-built Ren Ci Community Hospital, Ren Ci has expanded into sub-acute and intermediate long term care services in addition to chronic sick and nursing home units.

Truly deserving of The Courage Fund’s Healthcare Humanity Award, Pyi Tha Tun has proven himself to be an epitome of courage, compassion and humanity. His exemplary conduct is certainly an inspiration to many.  Pyi Tha Tun, aged 57, is a citizen of Myanmar and a Permanent Resident in Singapore.
