Admissions

+ How do I admit my relative into Ren Ci?

All admissions into Ren Ci are by referral through the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC), a centralised government agency that monitors the availability of beds across all Intermediate and Long Term Care (ILTC) facilities in Singapore. The AIC helps families look for suitable care options in Singapore. A patient can seek a consultation from his/her last attending doctor or speak to a medical social worker attached to that hospital or polyclinic, to assist in the application submission to AIC. If you are applying for subsidised rates at Ren Ci, you need to apply through AIC. For more information, please call 6355 6495.

Medical/Nursing Services

+ What kind of medical care does Ren Ci provide to the needy sick?

As a VWO, we are dedicated to provide affordable medical, nursing and rehabilitative care services to the elderly community. This includes physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psycho-social support and counselling. In addition to clinical and nursing care, Ren Ci also organises a calendar of social events, music therapy, art & craft sessions, entertainment and festive celebrations for patients and residents.

+ Who are Ren Ci's patients?

Ren Ci serves mainly three distinct types of patients at our three facilities:

Ren Ci Community Hospital provides intermediate rehabilitative care for patients who are transferred from acute hospitals. Their average length of stay is typically about one month to undergo rehabilitative therapy programmes to recuperate and recover.

Chronic Sick Unit in Ren Ci Community Hospital provides long term nursing, medical and rehabilitative care for chronic sick patients who requires higher level of nursing care. Majority of them are wheelchair-bound or bedridden with low socio-economic background.

Nursing Homes (i.e. Ren Ci @ Bukit Batok St. 52 and Ren Ci @ Ang Mo Kio ) provides long term nursing, medical and rehabilitative care for residents who also have high social needs. We always need volunteers to visit them regularly to befriend them and carry out meaningful social activities with them. Majority of the residents are wheelchair-bound or bedridden with low socio-economic background. For the first time, Ren Ci @ Bukit Batok St. 52 offers a dementia ward to provide specialized care for dementia residents in a safe and secure environment.

Miscellaneous

+ Why does manpower costs account for such a large percentage of the hospital's recurrent operating expenditure?

Healthcare is a highly labour-intensive service industry. Being an Intermediate & Long Term Care (ILTC) service provider, Ren Ci caters primarily to the step-down healthcare needs of the elderly. As majority of our patients are either bedridden or wheelchair-bound, they are highly dependent on our care staff for their activities of daily living. Currently, Ren Ci Hospital has a total workforce of nearly 800 staff across all facilities including day centres. Among them, the nursing cohort forms about two-third of our entire staff strength. And together with other healthcare professionals such as doctors, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, pharmacists, and social workers, they form eighty percent of overall employment.

+ How are staff salaries benchmarked?

Our staff salaries are benchmarked against the salary scale of National Council of Social Services as well as market surveys obtained from other hospitals and Voluntary Welfare Organisations.

Volunteering

+ How can I volunteer my services to the hospital?

Volunteers have a choice between volunteering for direct Patient Care programmes such as art & craft programmes OR indirect Patient Care programmes such as helping with fundraising events.

Direct Patient Care

Working closely with existing volunteer groups or in your own volunteer group, you may plan and engage our patients and residents with social activities such as befriending, celebrating birthdays and festivals, strolling around the neighbourhood, doing art and craft, playing games, singing karaoke, exercising with them. Other times, you may assist the nurses with feeding or therapists with group activities.

Be a part of the Ren Ci Family today by registering and we’ll contact you to attend an Orientation & Training programme with us!

We always welcome fresh and new ideas on patient and resident engagement activities, so do approach us if you have something in mind!

Indirect Patient Care

Even with government subvention and fee collection from the patients' families, it is still not sufficient to cover the operating costs of the hospital. For Ren Ci to sustain its operations, we need to organise charity drive events such as the Vegetarian Food Fiesta, Flag Day, Ren Ci Charity Show and Charity Dinner. Events of this scale often require a lot of manpower for them to be successful.

That's where you come in. Your selfless nature would help raise the much-needed funds for our patients.

Be a part of the Ren Ci Family now by registering with us and we'll call you when such events come along.

Interested? Here's how…

+ How can I come on board for CSR opportunities with Ren Ci?

Let us know your interest via email (renci@renci.org.sg) and we can start the ball rolling! The minimum lead time required for a small-scale activity is at least 2 working weeks before the date of activity, to plan and facilitate the necessary arrangements for the proposed CSR activity/ initiative. It will be ideal to plan way ahead for a successful and engaging CSR activity so that our patients and residents can better enjoy.
